Overview

Is there a help or a user manual available ?

(placeholder)

iModelKit comes with an integrated help system, localized in english and french. There is one help screen per application different display screen. Each help screen contains :

• A contextual help that shows any action and its purpose

• A text help that describe the screen goal and its use

• Some screen (Paint and mixer) have a warning help that describes limitations in colours and mixer specifically adapted to our hobby

The help is called by taping the current screen's title. It is also available by a 2 finger pan up gesture from the bottom of the screen.

No user manual is available as the App is constantly changing and it would never be up to date

Some paints are missing from the provided paint chart

We usually update our sample charts, as needed, every 6 to 8 monthes. So just check if a chart update is available (Manually or by using the automatic check feature).

We try to check every single chart, but there are a lot of them, so some might escape our attention. If a paint is still missing please use the link at the end of this chapter to drop us a mail so that we can add these paints to our next batch of updates.

To update a chart :

⚠️ Your device must be connected to the internet

• Select the chart you want to check.

• Use the information button      ︎located at the top of the screen:

➫ This will display the Chart Information screen

• Tap the URL tab

• Then tap the Check for update Now ! button :

➫ A message will tell you if an update is available for the chart

• Tap the Download & Update button

⚠️ In some rare cases, you might need to restart the App to see changes

My favorite Paint range/Material catalog is not available on iModelKit

We try to stick to the news of our hobby. It is constantly changing this times and this is especially true for paints. There seems to be a fashion for constantly creating new paint ranges.

We have created a lot of new paint ranges these past years. These new charts available for download from our website for free. To check if the chart is available on our website, please follow this link Charts >.

To import a chart :

⚠️ Your device must be connected to the internet

• Go to the paint chart list Screen

• Tap the sharing icon      located at the top left of the screen

• Select Internet

• Tap www.id6.ch/Charts on the browser search field (beware of the Capital C)

➫ The web page should load and display the list of charts

⚠️ Don't tap on the page chart to download them use the list button. If you did that anyway, you will see an error message, so just go back. This happens because Apple don't allow direct download from web pages on iOS for security reasons.

• Tap on the "List" button that apper at the top of the screen

➫ The screen will display the table of available charts

• Tap on the chart you want to download

⚠️ On iOS13 and iOS14 : Apple has drastically redesigned their sharing process, however they  haven't preserved backward compatibility (although we have sent tickets to them to correct this). So there are some minor issues with the sharing box. So never use the X button to close the box or the App will freeze (use a swipe down gesture instead). If that happens, you will have to restart the app. When you need to scroll the list of charts, you will have to swipe the screen up to make it bigger before being able to scroll the list.

If the paint range is missing in the list, please use the link at the end of this chapter to drop us a mail so that we can add this range to our "todo" list. We will then add it to our next batch of updates provided we can find enough information to create it.

We are working on a better way to discover and download new charts.

How to copy data from one device to another?

We have tried to implement a device to device copy on iModelKit. Unfortunately, this feature was not fast and reliable enough to put into the Store release. We will implement it in the next release. However, you still can do it manually. Although it appears cumbersome, it is quite easy. You have to use a Mac or a PC with iTunes to do it.

Here are the steps to do so:

ℹ️ Let's say you want to transfer your info from an iPhone to an iPad

• First quit the App on both devices. You can do so by double tapping on the home button (for device with a home button) or swiping up from the bottom edge of the screen (devices with FaceID). Once the list of running Apps appear, just swipe iModelKit up to remove it from the list.

💡 If you are not sure of what you are doing, you can restart the device to be sure.

• Plug the iPhone to your computer then either launch iTunes Application (On PC or older macOS) or open a finder window (macOS 11.x).

• Select your iPhone on the main window.

• Depending on your system, you will see a Files or Apps tab, select it

• On iTunes, you have to scroll down the window until you find the Files group

➫ A list of apps present on your iPhone is displayed

• Open the iModelkit (or iModelKit Light, or iModelKit Full depending on your version) App file list by taping on the > button

➫ A list of files sharable files for iModelKit is displayed

➫ The file that contains all the App info is iModelKit.db

• Copy the iModelKit.db file to your computer by draging it on the desktop (or any where you want to store it on your computer)

• Eject your iPhone from your computer properly by using the  ⏏  button

• Connect your iPad to your computer using the same procedure

• Select and open the iModelKit App File list

• Remove the iModelKit.db file from the list by using the context menu (Right click on the file name)

• Copy the first iModelKit.db file from your computer to the iPad by using drag and drop

• Wait for the file to appear in the iModelKit App file list (it can take a few seconds)

• Eject your iPad from your computer properly by using the  ⏏  button

• Launch iModelKit on your iPad to check that the copy has succeeded

How to backup my data?

iModekit data are automatically backed up with your device. So there is nothing special to do for that.

That said, there is one point you have to care about : This is when you buy a new device and want to get your data back. This is important for all your data, not just iModelKit.

• Before buying and installing a new device : Always backup your old device on your computer

• When installing the new device do it so by recovering data from the old device last backup

This way you should be good to go.

You can also backup iModelKit data manually by following the procedure described in:

Will there be a new release?

Yes, of course !

Unfortunately, we are and will be terribly late for this release. The main reason for this is that a lot of changes have occurred in the Apple development environment these past 2 years. This happened right in the middle of our coding process based on older Apple Technologies. We had to decide either to continue with older technologies or use the new ones. We decided to pause our development to take a look and thoroughly test these new technologies. At the end of this period, it has becoming more and more obvious that the way to go was the new technology one. Because it brings a better vision for the future of the App as it provides a safer, faster and far more durable way to create and maintain code. It will also provides a faster, safer and simpler final application for the user with the bonus of being more portable for future full iPad and Mac releases.

But this means that we have to rewrite (again) iModelKit from Scratch. The benefits will be worth the effort but this will take time. So please, be patient !

Of course, new charts (for the current release) will still be added and I hope Apple will continue to correct the compatibility bugs they have implemented in their new iOS releases.

iModelKit Releases and Naming confusion

There can be some confusion between the different iModelKit releases. This is mainly due to the fact that iModelKit is on the App Store for more than 10 years and that the App Store does not allow full changes in App naming (as of now). So here is a description of the different releases :

iModelKit, iModelKit Light (Free): This is the free release of iModelKit. iModelKit Light should be the correct name, but the Apple naming process does not propagate it all the way to the different  App Stores. So you might encounter both terms.

• iModelKit Full, iModelKit Premium (Tier 10): This is the Payed release of iModelKit. It suppresses the Ads (banners and interticials) and gives access to every features of iModelKit except the Inventory features. iModelKit Premium should be the correct term. iModelKit Full was the name of the payed release in version 1.0. We had to change the name to Premium to avoid confusion when we added the Inventory Module in version 2.0. Unfortunately, the same issue with the Apple Process has occured so you might encoutered both names.

Inventory Module (Tier 5): This is add on has been created on Version 2.0 by user request. This is an option as its features are only useful to some users. The Inventory is also not available without the Premium Release as it runs on top of some Premium Features. This add-on is available for the users who had purchased the "Full Release" from the Light one in version 1.0 and to the user of the Version 2.0 Premium Release.

Full+Inventory Module (Tier 15) : This add on is available only on the iModelKit Light release and  converts it to the Premium Release with the Inventory Module add on. Once bought, both releases are strictly identical, the code being the same.

To simplify currency change, the App Store pricing is based on Tiers. A Tier is based on the $ currency and has a specific value for each currency and country depending on the current money exchange rate and local taxes (VAT).

We hope that a new App Store distribution process will help us clarify the naming used in our Apps when we will issue the next release (v3.0), thus avoiding confusion.
